Interested in the archaeology and history of Eryri? Want to get involved? September 10-20, 2024

This September archaeologists from Eryri National Park Authority (NPA) and the University of Sheffield are investigating a cottage with an interesting history in the hills above Llanbedr, Ardudwy.

We are looking for volunteers to get involved in this exciting project focussed on a possible 300-400 year old building. You don’t need any prior experience; all necessary training will be provided by staff.

The work includes digging and then recording the remains and any artefacts that are discovered. The work is part of Eryri NPA’s ‘Cartrefu’ project, 2024-2025, investigating and celebrating ruinous historic cottages in rural Ardudwy..

Ardudwy is the area of western Eryri, roughly between Maentwrog and Barmouth, including coast and mountains. ‘Cartrefu’ builds on recent work by Eryri NPA and local community members to discover and record the stories of these settlements that are at risk of disappearing.
